Last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2016 Ford Explorer debuted, to the delight of SUV fans the world over. This deluxe model will be priced around $50,000, making it the highest-priced Explorer model to date – with the high-end persona to match.

The new Explorer comes in response to a demand for more upscale product, according to Ford Explorer brand manager Matt Zuehlk, who says, “There’s a market for more upscale SUVs, as 90 percent of today’s Explorer Sport buyers purchase the most expensive package available. That’s a strong signal customers are ready for Platinum.”

Ford’s Explorer models used to be the most popular SUVs in the United States, until trends began to lean in favor of small, more fuel efficient models. However, those who did purchase Explorers tended to buy the priciest ones available – indicating the market’s desire for an upscale SUV.

Technical specs aside, the 2016 Explorer will feature one more unique Ford attribute: For the first time, the Ford oval logo will not be blue. The 2016 Explorer is scheduled for sale this summer, but in the meantime, come check out the Ford models we have to offer here at Gurley Motors.
