Most times in the automotive industry, something either ends up being either lightweight or durable instead of being both. However, Ford is not like most companies in the automotive industry. Its commitment to excellence has helped create a product that delivers the best of both worlds.
According to a Ford press release, the Ford GT comes with lightweight Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla Glass combines durability with lightweight technology. The scratch-resistant windshield is more durable than most car windshields. However, it also ends up being 30 percent lighter than traditional windshield glass.
Ford teamed up with Corning Gorilla Glass to make this advanced windshield a reality for the Ford GT supercar.
“Gorilla Glass hybrid is a great example of how Ford works with suppliers to innovate in every area of our business,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford group vice president of Global Purchasing. “Ford GT is setting new standards for innovation through performance and light-weighting, and we’re excited about exploring other applications for this great new technology.”
While the Gorilla Glass may be impressive, just don’t expect it to stop real life gorillas any time soon!
