Winter is a magical time here in New Mexico. We don’t have to suffer through the heavy snow and frigid temperatures like our northern neighbors and can enjoy near ideal weather all season long. Check out this list of some great winter events near Gallup so you and your family can keep having fun.
- Gallup Flea Market. Every Saturday along Highway 491, check out this great flea market. You can find amazing things from delicious food, Navajo jewelry, spices, and so much more.
- Petrified Forest National Park. Drive an hour west into Arizona and spend at day at this breathtaking national park. You will see an amazing petrified forest along with the beautiful colors of the desert. There are numerous hiking areas, both paved and through the backcountry for advanced hikers. The park is open year round, but with the cool winter temperatures, now is a great time to visit.
- Saint Joseph’s Feast Day. This Native American festival will be held at the Laguna Pueblo, about an hour and a half southeast of Gallup, on March 19th. The tribe will perform harvest dances.
- X-Treme-Lee Fun Balloon Adventures. Get a bird’s-eye-view of the beautiful New Mexico landscape by riding in a hot air balloon. They fly year-round and on crisp, clear winter days, you can see for hundreds of miles.
